Blood tests are an essential part of diagnosing (or discounting) most hair loss conditions. Your GP will often carry out an initial blood test since hair loss can be a symptom of other medical issues requiring investigation, such as thyroid problems, auto-immune diseases or issues associated with vitamin/mineral deficiency or menopause. If you have had a blood test in the previous 6 months, I can use this. If not, I will often ask you to request one from your GP.
Sometimes GPs do not request the full range of hair-specific tests we need. Other times results can fall within the normal range for general health but not for optimum hair health. This is fully discussed during a consultation.
If a GP refuses non-essential or repeat blood tests, I am able to arrange a private test.
